Greetings!

My name is Kellie Stark and I am the K-4 art teacher at Coolidge and Buchanan Elementaries.  I am a eighth year teacher in Livonia public schools and am thrilled to be returning to Buchanan and Coolidge to teach art again!  I love working for Livonia Public Schools and am extremely passionate to share my love of art with your children!  I am also very supportive of the Livonia community as well, living only miles from the schools that I work at and having a child that attends Livonia schools as well.   As a child, I  attended Livonia schools through 12th grade.  I am still to this day inspired by the great art teachers I had growing up.  I completed my undergraduate program at Wayne State University with a B.A. of Science in Education with a major in K-12 Art Education.  I have also completed my Masters degree for Autism Spectrum Disorders from Madonna University. The experiences and lessons I have learned during my graduate studies have helped me become a better educator, but I am always looking for ways to improve and better teach my students.   I am always interested working with a diverse population of children and learning something new everyday.

I believe in the importance of a well-rounded education that begins as early as possible and includes all subjects such as art, music and physical education. I know a strong arts education can help children develop higher-order thinking skills, improve scores on tests and bring excitement and fun into learning.   My main goal as an art educator is to provide students with a fundamental knowledge of art and design concepts as well as provide an introduction to art history and appreciation.   Within the art curriculum, I often use art as a tool to connect visual concepts to reading, writing, math, science and social studies to name just a few.  I feel my holistic approach to teaching art helps students make connections across the curriculum that reaches a vast population of students with a variety of learning styles and needs.
